Subject: Passing of an Aviation Pioneer

Sir/Ma'am,

Please join us as we mourn the passing of one of our nation's aviation pioneer,
Lt Colonel (Ret) Lee A. Archer, a highly decorated member of the
Tuskegee Airmen and World War II ace. He was 90 years old.

Col Archer entered the Army in Nov 1941. After basic training, he was
transferred to Camp Wheeler in Macon, Georgia to attend infantry training.
Upon completion of his training at Camp Wheeler, he received training as a
Telegrapher and Field Network Communications Specialist where he was promoted
to Acting Sergeant as an instructor. In Dec 1942, then Acting Sergeant Archer
was accepted to Aviation Cadet Training and reported to Tuskegee Army Airfield.
He graduated on 28 Jul 1943, graduating number one in his class and receiving
a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant.

Col Archer flew 169 missions and is the only confirmed ace of the Tuskegee
Airmen with five confirmed aerial victories. He is also credited with
destroying six enemy aircraft on the ground. Col Archer's military awards
include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 18 clusters, the
Distinguished Unit Citation, and many other service medals.

Following his retirement from active duty in 1970, Col Archer joined General
Foods Corp where he rose to become a corporate vice president.

Col Archer remained active with the Tuskegee Airmen and was among the original
members who attended President Obama's inauguration in 2009.

Funeral services have yet to be announced. As we get additional information,
we will pass accordingly. <<Lt Col Archer.jpg>>
