Hi Reta,
Nine members met our leader, Frank Schaff, at Bethel Beach in Matthews
yesterday for our monthly birdwalk. It was cold at 44 Degrees when we started
out at around 8:30 a.m. and quite blustery and windy on the beach. After
getting a bit cold, we followed Mike and Judy Andrews in our cars to two other
stops. The wind died down a bit and that helped.
We were able to find 20 species as follows: Great Blue Heron, Belted
Kingfisher, Ring-billed Gull, Surf Scoter, Bufflehead, Bald Eagle, Tundra Swan,
Great Black-backed Gull, Red-throated Loon and Common Loon, Sanderlings, Cedar
Waxwings, American Robin, American Crow, Northern Cardinal, Mourning Dove,
Northern Mockingbird, Red-breasted Merganser, Northern Flicker, and Herring
Gull.
Seven of us went out to lunch together in Matthews. I’m not sure of the
name of the Restaurant and I think it is Robertson’s or Robinson’s. It used to
be a Rexall Drugstore. The food was delicious and a good time was had by all.
