Outlook Express has a vulnerability that allows Trojan horse programs to
circumvent many e-mail attachment filtering programs. Using a specially
crafted e-mail header that contains three file extensions, the attachment
is ignored by filtering programs, looks like a safe attachment to users
(like a .jpg picture file), and yet runs a Trojan horse program when
opened. The exploit does not work on Outlook's full version, only Outlook
Express. British e-mail provider MessageLabs issued the warning, stating
that it had noticed an increase in this type of exploits.
