Physical and tech security should merge
There is a growing trend toward organizations connecting physical and IT
security tasks and processes. In many enterprises this development is
reflected in the organizational structure where positions such as chief
security officer (CSO) are being created with responsibilities for both
areas. Encouraging collaboration between physical and cyber security makes
sense for a variety of reasons, including the possibility to cut costs and
improve communications within the enterprise, and because both areas are
involved in minimizing operational risks. However, although physical and IT
security is being brought together, it should not be assumed that staff
will only need one set of technical skills.
