Hacker causes havoc for websites

An unidentified hacker has broken into a server belonging to British web 
hosting company bargainhost.co.uk. The hacker stole passwords, defaced 
websites and corrupted data stored on the server, potentially affecting 
1,500 of the firm's 5,000 customers. Some of bargainhost's customers, such 
as snowboarding site powderroom.net, have had serious difficulties because 
backed up data was also affected by the hack. Bargainhost's Technology 
Manager James Innes advises customers to change their passwords. Some 
customers found the firm unresponsive and were not impressed with security 
measures at bargainhost.
