Browser Hijackers Ruining Lives

In response to a Wired article on browser hijackers such as CWS, a number of 
readers sent in letters detailing how such malwares cost them their jobs, 
relationships, and reputations. Browser hijackers infect machines and change 
settings on web browsers, such as the home page and the default search page. 
CWS serves pornographic pop-ups, adds pornographic pages to bookmarks, and will 
often redirect browsers to pornographic sites; some of the content CWS uses 
borders on criminal. One man reports losing his job and being arrested after an 
employer found child pornography images on his work computer. A store owner in 
Georgia reports that he and his wife separated for a while after she thought he 
was looking at pornographic websites. Often, judges and law enforcement will 
not accept claims that a computer downloaded pornographic images on its own.
