Another great source that you might look at is
http://www.authentichistory.com. This sight from an area social studies
teacher has cultural "artifacts" from the Civil War to the 90's. This
includes posters and recordings of actual records from the various era.
It is really interesting to listen to the lyrics of some of the songs-
some bloodthirsty ( kill ten of them for each one of ours) and some
almost maudlin.

The Rock n Roll hall of fame site has teacher's lesson plans which use
music to teach history and other subjects ( where have all the flower's
gone for example.) Hope these will be of help
