Medical information is vital. Speaking a language different
than that of the health care providers who are taking care
of a patient, the patient may be at a distinct disadvantage
in knowing and understanding what is happening in their
health situation. Web resources like the ones below, may
be useful to health care providers in helping their Spanish
or other non-English speaking patients and their families
develop better information about the medical circumstances
in which they find themselves. In the United States Spanish
is particularly important because Spanish speaking citizens
now constitute the largest minority in the United States.

Another important aspect of working with patients
whose language is non-English is to better understand
as much as possible about the language of the patient.

The resource links found on these web pages will help
with this need:

I hope that the members of this discussion group will find
these resources a healthy way to use the internet, so to
speak.

Sincerely,
David Dillard Research Librarian
