Corruption in Walker's Administration?

A secret probe into political wrongdoing has swept up the point person onthe Wisconsin governor's anti-union efforts; will it reach the governorhimself?

When Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker took a phone call that he thought wasfrom billionaire campaign donor David Koch, he described the secretmeeting of his cabinet at which he outlined the budget repair bill thatstripped collective bargaining protections from public employees andteachers, replaced civil servants with political cronies and made itpossible to sell off public utilities in no-bid deals with out-of-statecorporations.

E-mails obtained by the Center for Media and Democracy reveal that thecabinet was indeed present for the meeting. The secretaries andgubernatorial aides who were present are listed. But so, too, is one otherkey player in the administration: the individual identified in e-mailsfrom key players in the Walker administration as the point person for thegovernors push to radically restructure labor relations and stategovernmenta project so significant to Walker that he declared, This is ourmoment.

That person? Cynthia Archer, the subject of last weeks FBI raid, whichremoved a crate of documents from her Madison home, collected hercomputers hard drive and revealed to most Wisconsinites that a John Doeprobe has targeted key aides to Walker during his service as countyexecutive and governor. The probe remains secret, but leaks associatedwith it suggest that the focus is political wrongdoing and corruption. Onetop donor to Walkers 2010 gubernatorial campaign has already been put onprobation after admitting to felony violations of campaign finance andmoney laundering rules.

The governor says he does not know anything about the inquiry beyond whathe has read in the press. But Walkers campaign, which remains a goingendeavor, has hired a former US attorneywith extensive experience dealingwith federal investigationsto respond to his a subpoena related to theJohn Doe probe for email and other records. And that attorneys firm has,according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, been paid more than $60,000.

Wisconsin leads the nation when it comes to cutting support for education.

.

Wisconsin has moved to take authority away from local elected schoolboards and parents and to rest it with political appointees who respond toGov. Scott Walker and out-of-state groups that are spending millions ofdollars to undermine public education.

Wisconsins best and brightest teachers the Teacher of the Year awardwinners have joined mass demonstrations to decry the assault bypoliticians and their cronies on public education.

Whats Walkers response? He wants to tell the nation how to do the same.

Thats right. Walker has been invited to join governors from states acrossthe country for a special Education Nation panel session focused oneducation and economic competitiveness, titledThe State of Education: TheGovernors Perspective.

Walker has no great story to tell about reforms in Wisconsin. Walker hasno great story to tell about bipartisan collaborations. Yet the governoris spouting off about how he will tell his fellow governors a thing or twoabout how to improve education.

What an epic example of arrogance!

It is no wonder that the only thing dropping faster than state support foreducation in Scott Walkers Wisconsin is the governors approval rating.
