Bob,

I suggest one of the superzooms like Panasonic, Canon, or Nikon.  They
are wonderful cameras and are useful for odes, butterflies, and moths.
 I used a Panasonic 10x zoom before I got my current camera and it was
pretty good for moths except for the smaller ones.  $350 should be
enough to purchase any of the superzooms.  They are a little big to
fit in a pocket but I wouldn't get anything smaller for what you want
to use it for.
