Refinery investors seek tax cuts
JAKARTA - Investors interested in building oil refineries in Indonesia are
asking for fiscal incentives in the form of tax cuts, said Iin Arifin Takhyan,
director general of oil and gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
After a meeting of Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro
with a delegation of Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (Nexi) on Monday,
Iin said he has sent a letter on request for fiscal incentives to the Finance
Minister.
"The authority to provide fiscal incentives rests with the finance minister,"
Iin said.
Under the Tax Law, fiscal incentives are provided to the builders of strategic
infrastructure projects, including oil refineries.
Meanwhile, Purnomo said his ministry has made efforts to speed up the building
of new oil refineries to meet 70% of demands for locally produced fuel oil and
30% of imported fuel oil.
"Therefore, we need two more refineries with total capacity of 125,000 barrels
per day in the next two to three years," Purnomo said.
