Good to hear you have a solution, the AppleTV does look nice and will
accommodate the video streaming aswell.
I think Apple must have bigger plans for the AppleTV, it doesn't push it like
the iPods.

Subject: [muglo] wireless

Over the last several days I have been having these online
discussions about what I want to do wirelessly with my computers. I
got the feeling we were all talking about similar things but I was
confused about some of the terminology we were using. We seemed to
use terms like Airport, Airport Extreme, Airport Express Airport
Extreme Base Station interchangeably, but I found out they are all
different.
I dropped my daughter off for her doctors' appointment (baby
due in 2 weeks) in London and determined to figure out my system.
Today I went to a couple of stores, thinking I needed a wireless
router to accomplish what I wanted to do. 2 different salesmen tried
to sell me a wireless router, but neither of them knew if it would do
what I wanted, they just thought it should do the trick, but neither
store had an up and running example. I hadn't gone to Mostly Digital
because it was on the opposite end of London, across a lot of
traffic, but I finally figured I just had to talk to a Mac person,
instead of a parts salesman. Am I glad I did. BTW, what a great new
store they have. The online pics don't do it justice. You guys really
need to check it out for yourselves.
Paul listened to what I wanted to do and first off said I
don't need a wireless router. From what I can gather, the other
salesmen are accustomed to dealing with PC users, and didn't know
Macs came with wireless built in, at least the kind I have. Paul was
also able to show me everything I wanted to do, on their in-house
systems set up around the store. That was a great help. I now know
that if I only need audio, I need one thing, but if I want streamed
video from my computer to my TV, which is what I had in mind, then I
need Apple TV. Apple TV is too cool. I could have it hooked up to my
computer and stream audio from itunes, or movies from imovie, etc,
from my desktop computer, or I can hook it up to my HS internet
connection via ethernet and watch things like U Tube directly on my
TV, download movies from the Apple Store, plus a whole menu of other
things. The other neat thing about Apple TV is it comes with a 40 Gig
or 160 Gig HD which means you can load a bunch of stuff onto it and
take it to some one elses house and play your stuff on their TV ( or
the cottage ) without having to load up the whole computer.
The price tag is more than I figured I'd have to pay, but
it's the only way to go. Now I just have to do the pencil work and
convince momma this is the way to go...Doug
