Someone else will surely be able to give you a more definitive answer than I
can, Jim, but although I think one or two of the first iterations of OSX will
run on your machine, the slowness of the bus and the shortage of RAM will
ensure that they run only slowly.
Are you thinking of upgrading in order to able to use certain specific
applications? Or certain higher-numbered versions of certain applications? It's
probably best to see how high an operating system they require, and how much
space and how much speed. The last requirement is the least tractable one.
It may wind up being not much more expensive to buy a later model, used, with
a faster bus and more RAM. There are always good bargains to be had, traded in
by the latest-and-greatest crowd.
