As Gerhard replied, iWork is the replacement for Appleworks. I have both, and prefer AW for its simplicity and database. iWork is more Word-like, with bells and whistles and its ability to convert to Excel & Word, etc. I guess it's a matter of preference and utility. If you're using AW for personal stuff and not sharing with PC users, stick with it.
