The forums discussion raises its head again. Some people want to discuss particular topics of interest - that's cool. Isn't there already a huge network of connected servers and computers with a worldwide reach to minds of similar interest? Anyone with a computer and a connection should be able to find a topic discussion forum suited to their peculiar bent. Forums require the person to go there. Lists bring the topics to you. Either you ignore it on the front end, or you ignore it on the back end. If forums have an RSS feed, this overcomes some of that hurdle. Some do, but the feed doesn't provide the image and you still have to go to the forum to read the message. Lists don't seem to allow html formatted mail, or included graphics. Listservs don't want hidden, embedded hostile code bringing down their server. Groups - as in Google Groups - provide an RSS feed, and easily allow links to other files - just as an ordinary email does, but provide server space for members to upload and store external documents. Some members of Muglo don't have online server space - for various reasons, though there are many free alternatives. Still there is some difficulty in learning to use some such subscribed service, and it, though no more difficult than loading an image onto a forum, is less transparent. Mostly, it seems, there are more requests to learn how to do things; instructions or directions which are most easily explained with pictures or some hands on demonstrations. --- Manage your account options at //www.freelists.org/list/muglo
