The solution I use at our shool is for pupils to open the shared
document and immediately save it under a different name. The said
document then becomes "theirs" and they can save while working without
fear of freezing, or losing work done.
Microsoft doesn't allow more than on user to work on the SAME document
at the same time. It's logical if you think about it. Prevents
collision. Therefore the name change is essential.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
We are having a problem, which we thought was relevent only to compaqs
since
that was the only thing we could find in common with the machines it was

happening on but now has happened on a dell and it does not happen on
all
compaqs that we have that are set the same way.
When some one is working in word 2000 and saves to a shared drive it
locks
up and even ctrl+alt-Del doesn't work. The only thing to do is hold the

power key in until it shuts down. you can though use the option to
"save as"
and choose .rtf as oppose to saving in the .doc format. Though this is
a
work around its not that great as most teacher forget it and then we get
the
call "i've typed 6 pages and now they are gone"

We searched the knowledge base to no help, though we did see the
question
posed on a alt.microsoft.public. group. there were no answers offered

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
