Sometimes when it freezes and gets a three-finger salute, it doesn't always recover. Particularly on 2000...2002 is better. BTW...if your screen is freezing, there's a good chance that your video driver needs to be updated. Try going to ControlPanel/System and check the Performance dialog. There you'll find a button for Graphics (on 9x) systems. Click it and click the Slide down two clicks for Hardware Accelerator. That helps reduce some of the pull on the video and usually helps. The other reason it can freeze, if it's not the video, is that an addin is causing a problem on opening or closing. But if you weren't opening/closing when it errored out...then shoot for the video test.
