If you could be a bit more specific, it may help. For example, are you
using Word? Which version?
I know you can set up paragraphs so they are not checked by the spell
checker. Click in a paragraph and then double-click the spelling and
grammar icon in the status bar to check its settings.
You can also protect a document. Try tools - protection (from memory -
I am using Word 2007) and check if it is protected.
