Thanks Dian,

there are a few more symbol's used

something that looks like a 'degree' symbol, apparently made using a
kind of space character... ALT 0160

and a character that resembles this: <-'
imagine that as all one smaller character (I tried to copy/past the
actual one here but it doesn't show up)
I found that it is made when doing a shift-enter but I haven't found the
significance of it, is there something special about this compared to a
normal 'enter'

neither of these show unless the show all is enabled.

I spent quite a bit of time looking for the 'degree' symbol the other
night, I still don't know what it's significance is.

The other one is a small circle about mid height on the line with 4 dots
around it, it appears when you copy/paste in multiple cells from excel.
there is one in each cell and one at the end of each line of cells.
I've had a bear of a time trying to delete the last one of those on each
line, at least I have that problem at work office 2k on 2k OS on dell
machines. I just tried deleting them in a test doc here and it worked
fine, (highlight - ctrl-x and it was gone). when I do the paste at work,
I don't get the 'boxes' around each cell like I do here at home, must be
an OS thing cause I'm using XP-pro here, 2k there.
