The story behind the URLs... A couple years ago, MS decided they wanted to create more of a user COMMUNITY feel. And they're still working that idea, somewhat. They sent all the MVPs and partners these "community" URL stickers and we all used that link. And then...as Linda pointed out recently...they rethought the plan and decided to add the newsgroups on a more simple support.microsoft.com URL...in an effort to simplify many URLs so folks can more easily remember them. Plus, the browser newsgroup interface is a fairly new way to get to the newsgroups. Prior to a couple years ago...you HAD to use a newsreader to get there via the msnews.microsoft.com news server. But once we beta tested the web interface and they worked out some issues, they put it up in the community area. But it worked out so well...and so many folks can get into newsgroups at the office due to firewalls, that they added it to the support area. They also have it segmented off for developers in the MSDN area and for IT folks in the TechNet area. The only true way to get to ALL the newsgroups in all languages, for all technologies in one place, is to use Outlook Express or some other newsreader, like Free Agent, and go to msnews.microsoft.com. The browser interfaces have different groups pulled for different areas of expertise. Although support and communities may now be all the same? (I don't know for sure as I use a newsreader and go in via the back door!<g>) Dian Chapman Technical Consultant, Instructor, Microsoft MVP & TechTrax Editor Word AutoForm/VBA eBook: http://www.mousetrax.com/books.html Tutorial web site: http://www.mousetrax.com/techpage.html TechTrax Ezine: http://www.mousetrax.com/techtrax/ -----Original Message----- From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Diane Rainaud Sent: Wednesday, November 06, 2002 8:05 AM To: MSO @ Freelists. I'm sure you're both right that it can't be done, but one can always hope:) I noticed that the links you gave me differ slightly and for the life of me I can't see how they relate to each other. They have virtually the same information, but have a different look to the web pages (and of course different URLs). At first I thought one was just a drilled-down part of the other, but I can't see that after all. Obviously this is not very important, but I am curious. Thanks.
