[mso] Trouble with formatting in Word

Hi,
a friend who works with me via Internet uses OfficeXP under WinXP, and
complains that every time he makes a formatting change in a paragraph, as
for example setting part of the paragraph to "bold", all the text on the
whole document undergoes the same change. Then he presses "Esc" and the
formatting is correctly applied. This happens only on documents created on
his machine, not with documents I create here and email him to work on,
which seems to indicate it is something in his Word configuration, perhaps
in AutoCorrect. This has happened since he installed Office XP.
I have tried to go through the Word options with him, by phone, and also
had him delete his mormal.dot template to be recreated by Word, but the
problem continues. As I'm not familiar with WordXP (I use Word2000 under
Win2K) I have been unable to find the cause from a distance.
Thanks.
Wilson
