I am using Word 97, but the problem also occurs in Word 2002. If I create a
form and setup a field that I want users to use <alt i> to insert a tick, it
all works well until I protect the document. I have selected fill-in enabled
in the text form field options.

when the user presses <alt i>, nothing is inserted. The user can enter other
characters in the filed (ie Normal text)
