I find this really annoying, especially when I'm entering data in Excel,
just zipping along, and discover that Excel has made assumptions as to what
I want to put in the cells. Grrrr!>>

Most of that stuff can be turned off, Carolyn.  I suggest you look thru
Tools>Options in all the Office programs...this is where you can tell the
program what you want and don't want.

For your example....Open Excel and go to the Tools menu and choose Options.
In there, click on the Edit tab, then remove the checkmark from the box that
says "Enable AutoComplete for Cell Values"

This back to Andrew K. about drop down lists, etc. It would be wonderful if
