[mso] Outlook Communication Status

The tools that Outlook provides to monitor communication status (the
misleading status % in the lower right corner and the pop up window that
doesn't tell me anything) are proving to be inadequate tools to monitor
my email communication, and to watch for and diagnose problems.
Does anyone have any other tools that might help?
I would like to be able to know what is really going on.
