Setting a hyperlink base introduces another problem. Any hyperlinks to bookmarks within the same document don't work after the document is moved. At least, that's my experience. ..denn -----Original Message----- From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of McDonald, Christine, Ms, DCAA Sent: Wednesday, September 21, 2005 5:44 PM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] Re: MsWord Hyperlinks Don't Work After Moving Documents There is a way in MS Word 2003 to set the hyperlink Base, I believe this feature was available in prior versions. From the Word help: hyperlink base: When a relative link is based on a path you specify (the first part of the path that is shared by the file containing the hyperlink and the destination file), that path is the hyperlink base. Open the document for which you want to set a hyperlink base.=20 On the File menu, click Properties, and then click the Summary tab.=20 In the Hyperlink base box, type the path you want to use for all the hyperlinks you create in this document.=20 Note You can override the hyperlink base by typing the full address for the hyperlink in the Insert Hyperlink dialog box. The 'relative hyperlinks' stop working when the documents are moved 'en masse' to another folder, even though the hyperlink target files remain in their original location.=20 (Opening and then saving the documents to the new location works ok, but that takes a lot of time.) MsWord seems to allow absolute addressing only if the target file is located on a different server. It appears to always want some sort of relative addressing otherwise. (Either using the Property->Base Hyperlink or the current location.) How can I force absolute addressing in an MsWord Hyperlink? ************************************************************* You are receiving this mail because you subscribed to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or MicrosoftOffice@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To send mail to the group, simply address it to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To Unsubscribe from this group, send an email to mso-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word "unsubscribe" (without the quotes) in the subject line.
