Although there is a row limit (around 65k+ I think), I believe the limit on
the number of sheets is dependant on what your PC can handle...so there
wouldn't be a way to tell until your PC poops out.

Subject: [mso] Max number of worksheets allowed?
Is there a way to determine ahead of time the maximum of worksheets allowed
in one workbook ahead of time? This project I have begin is starting to look
like it will involve 86 or 87 sheets. Will Excel go that high?
Thank you.
Robert
