I'm having a problem using Word with my new PC. The operating system is Vista
Home Premium. The PC came with a trial version of Office 2007. When I open
Word documents, they show up as "read-only." This happens even when I change
the document attributes, giving full read and write privileges to all users. I
am the only user of this PC, although Vista shows several user identities
including administrator, Lenovo, and me. Who knows why??? I store most of my
documents on an external drive, but the read-only phenomenon happens when I
retrieve documents from the "My Documents" folder too.
I uninstalled Office 2007 and loaded up my trusty version of Word 2000, but the
same problem occurs. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?
If I open a document and make no changes to it, the system will not allow me to
save the document under another name. If I make a change and try to save the
document under the original name, the system will not allow it. If I use "save
as" under a new name after I have made a change to the document, the system
saves the document. But then when I open this new document, it shows up as
"read-only." It's a senseless cycle that fills up my hard drive and it's
really annoying. Help!
Mike
