As I said last week, I would use a MATCH and INDEX combination, because this will work better with unsorted data. All stemmed from a message of mine a while ago. I appreciate that you say you avoid=20 LOOKUP but wonder if you saw/have any ideas on the actual query (now tidied up I hope!) below: My students are doing basic work on Functions and two came up with a similar SS=20 formula. LOOKUP (J5, Filled Down 5:27) returns different cols here (unsorted B:H values): A B C D E F G H I 3 Year USA Canada Japan France Germany Italy UK 5 1984 7.5 10.9 2.8 10.0 7.1 5.9 =20 11.7 =3DMAX(B5:H5) J9 then contains =3DLOOKUP(I5,B5:H5,$B$3:$H$3) =20 ... but returns #NA here in Col F, if MIN returns Col D value (as in Row 3)!!! A B C D E =20 F 1 towns Airline 1 Airline 2 Airline 3 cheapest best deal =20 2 NY =A3325 =A3330 =A3355 =3DMIN(B2:D2) F2 then contains =3DLOOKUP(E2,B2:D2,$B$1:$D$1) 3 Berlin =A3167 =A3159 =A386 =3DMIN(B3:D3) -------------------------------------------------------------- Sent with "Me-Mail", Boltblue's FREE mobile messaging service. http://www.boltblue.com ----- End forwarded message ----- -------------------------------------------------------------- Sent with "Me-Mail", Boltblue's FREE mobile messaging service. http://www.boltblue.com ************************************************************* You are receiving this mail because you subscribed to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or MicrosoftOffice@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To send mail to the group, simply address it to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To Unsubscribe from this group, send an email to=20 mso-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word "unsubscribe" (without the quotes) in the subject line.
