[mso] FW: Re: DIAN...is there a "trim" function in Word field codes?... (was Office 97 Word Merge)

Problem solved! I just LOVE my job!!

After mulling it over a bit more and perusing the Word Help files, I found
the answer.

Wanna know what it is? Ha, Ha, Ha, it's so simple, we should all be
smacking ourselves silly.

{IF{MERGEFIELD Type} = "Training""T""{IF{MERGEFIELD Type} =
"Operation""O"""}"}

The issue was confusing because I don't know enough about what I'm doing to
ask the question properly. Trim? Ha, I actually MEANT truncate and in Word
and Excel, I believe the proper term is Left or Right, depending on what
needs trimming, so to speak.

Thanks Dian, Linda, James, Greg and everyone else for helping. Greg that
VB(A) code sample is terrific, but just looking at it made me wanna take up
drinking.

For the second time this week, I am GIDDY with success. Yipppeeee!!

Good night Gracie.

Actually, I don't thing Greg *did* answer it completely. I think Glenda
said she already knows how to trim it...what she is trying to do is now get
this trimmed letter to appear as a field in her mail merge.

Which I don't think is possible, is it Greg?

added her name to the subject

Sorry...I was busy and am just seeing this now...although I see Greg
answered it...who is definitely someone who knows.
