I am sure there is a setting in the options for "Show Crop marks".  Not
having used W 2003 for a century or so, I can't remember where it is.
You could open the VBA Editor (while your word doc is open) and type this
in the immediate window then press enter..

activedocument.ActiveWindow.View.ShowCropMarks=false

You could also do

activedocument.ActiveWindow.View.ShowTextBoundaries=false
