Neither idea worked, so we restored an older version from tape. He's
busy reconstructing the past 2 day's work.

Thanks, everyone, for trying!

When Access starts it creates a LDB file that keeps track of the users
in
the database. When the last person is out of the database the LDB file
is
destroyed. Sometimes this file is left hanging and it will not let any
one
back in. The LDB file is in the same directory as the MDB file the name
is
the same and as the MDB with a LDB extension. If the file exists with no
user in the database that might be your problem. You can delete the
file,
just don't do this if someone is in a database.

If you can't open the file itself, create a new Access application and
try
to import the objects from the broken database.=20

The DB was created using Access 2000. It is a single-file DB that
resides on a file-sharing server. 3 or 4 people have access to it.

tj-

A couple of questions

Is the database on a server? Is the database split into a front end /
back
end application or is it a single file? What version of Access?

Subject: [mso] Corrupted Access Database

I have a user whose database has become corrupted. At least, I think
that's what's happened. Here's the error message:

"The database (filename) needs to be repaired or isn't a database file.
You or another user may have unexpectedly quit Microsoft Access while a
Microsoft Access database was open."

It then attempts to repair the database but I get this message:
"Not a valid password." He's sure the password is correct. I believe
him since Access responds differently if I type in an incorrect
password. It accepts the correct password and attempts to repair; it
won't accept an incorrect password at all.

I've tried Tools, Database Utilities, Repair to no avail. I've also
tried Convert. Again, no luck.

Ideas?
