[mso] Copying data into an existing Word document

I have problems when I am copying data from one document into another. What
rules apply? It seems margins are not carried over (whether using Insert -
File, or Copy and Paste). What about styles? If the pasted text contains a
Heading1, will it change to the original document's Heading1 style?

Is there a way to copy text from one document to another and retain the
copied data's styles, margins and other settings?

Conversely, is there a good way of matching the destination document,
without losing formatting such as italics?
