Ray - this is a good point. I haven't been able to re-create Christine's
problem, but I am running Acrobat 7... Maybe it is fixed in this version. (I
hadn't posted this, as I was hoping the older CDs would show up and I could
test on one of the older versions. Unfortunately, the CDs are somewhere, but
not here in the apartment - or not where I can find them anyway :) )

This comment may apply to the questions both in this thread and in
"Underlined
Hyperlinks in Powerpoint".
The Adobe Reader underwent significant improvement in the version 7 update.
Among other enhancements, both URL hyperlinks and mailto links work more
reliably in version 7. Upgrading your Reader may solve your problems.
