Robert: You plan to print almost 10,000 pages? That's a LOT of paper. The way I'd approach this is to put the page number in a text box, then position that text box in the header of the document, having defined the document as having the same first, even, and odd header. 1. On the File > Page Setup > Layout tab, clear the "Different odd and even" and "Different first page" check boxes. 2. In the body of the first page, use Insert > Textbox to drag a textbox roughly the size of the number you envision using. 3. In the text box, use Insert > Field > Page to insert the page number. 4. Format the page number to the size and color you want. (You may need to experiment and change it later, after putting it in the header.) 5. Cut the textbox, open the header, and paste the text box into the header. 6. Select the text box (the frame, not the content) and click Format > Textbox. 7. On the Layout tab, select Behind Text. 8. On the Colors and Lines tab, remove any outline or fill. 9. Test the result in Print Preview, by printing a page or more, and by changing the start page to one with four digits to make sure your textbox is wide enough.
