Hi, I just encountered a new error while linking tables to my master database. I got an 'Open Table Limit' error, said I had too many tables open and had reached the limit. I only had one query open, but had been in the process of linking new tables. Does access consider a linked table an open table? The database crashed, had to re-open. I may have created a disaster waiting to happen and need advice. Is there a limit to the amount of linked and/or tables a database can safely handle? My master may have over 600 linked tables. Possibly around 400 of those links are to tables in our oracle based company purchasing system. I don't use all the links, but in the beginning when we first linked to the system, no one could give us a diagram/schematic of the tables, their data & relationship structure, so I just linked to them all and began looking at them. Via trial and error, I found the tables & relationships needed for my project. I did not remove any links to non-used tables, as (tho very rare), from time to time new data needs would surface and we would need to search for the table and add it to the query structure. In addition to the purchasing system tables, I am also linking to about 200 access tables that feed a dozen or so specific front end databases. This master system links to all the table sources so I can do roll-up reporting, data manipulation/clean-up. I really had not realized it had grown so large. Is it a bad idea to have a master table linked to all the other systems/tables. I feel I already have too many databases and was trying to consolidate the master activities into one spot. I'm thinking my first step is to remove the links to some of the oracle tables I don't use, that would eliminate quite a chunk. I would appreciate any advice, as the needs for databases keeps expanding and I'm afraid I may have been piling one process on top of another to get through a particular situation, but need to re-look at the whole idea of how the systems should interact. Thank you for any advice, and if anyone knows about the 'Open Table Limit' error, it would be appreciated, thanks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material.
