I got similar issues and traced it in the end to the Spam filter in
place, which was denying some emails, but not others, dependent on what
words were in place, and then sending out a 'fake' NDR to suggest you
couldn't send spam to me in the future.

I am personally seeing these when I send e-mails to my wife and I
maintain the Exchange 2003 server for her company as well. I see then
randomly. If I resend the e-mail a few seconds later it will go through
fine. My other users are seeing similar issues when sending to other
domains. I tell them to resend and it goes through. =3D3D3D20

Are you receiving this error from emails that you actually sent? or are
=3D3D3D3D they just "relay denied for xxx" messages and you are unsure =
of
=3D =3D3D the =3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D original email?

The option to allow anyone who successfully authentications regardless
of the list items you can specify is check on my back end and frnt end
servers. It's always been like this. It seems as if I've been getting
this error more lately as virus load has increased. I'm inclined to
thing it's an authentication issue. I'm using a LAN connected Outlook
2003 client directly to my Exchange server. =3D3D3D3D3D20

Anyone know the process of how Exchange verifies you are authenticated
when an directly connected RPC client tries to send an e-mail? There
must be some bottleneck at the server, a DC, or elsewhere. But I'm not
sure how to pin it down. =3D3D3D3D3D20

Hi Evan
Check ur relay tab in the smtp virtual server and see who are allowed to
relay to ur domain.

Also is this exchange server directly on the internet or is there some
other smtp server in front of this. If there is another smtp server in
front of this, u need to check the relay settings on this server.

Regards,
Prem
