Farmer builds 50-foot snowman in Minnesota
GILMAN, Minn. (UPI) -- Still fighting off the winter blues?
Meet "Granddaddy," the 50-foot snowman on Greg Novak's farm near Gilman, Minn.,
where
locals are living under 4.5 feet of snow.

Novak, who built a 29-foot snowman back in 1991, started working on Granddaddy
in
January.
He worked through ice-cold temperatures and the occasional snowstorm for five
weeks
in the hope that his whimsical creation would make people smile.
"It's a smile idea. Building a snowman isn't original," he said. Building one
this
big is a little different.
Novak made Granddaddy by blowing snow into large compartments with a silo
blower,
then stacking them on top of each other. He used a garbage pail for the nose and
lids for the buttons.
"It's been a long, hard winter. We might as well have fun with it. If you can't
beat
it, embrace it," he said.
