The accident happened on the private crossing of the Cambrian Line which
leads into the back of the WHR(P)'s site at Gellet Farm. The crossing is
the next one to the Road level crossing in Porthmadog. A Travis Perkins
lorry driver made a delivery to the works and was returning to the road when
he stopped with the cab on the crossing to see if a train was coming, it
was!!! The train took out the lorry cab before stopping.

Another driver who very nearly got what he deserved!

I am a fireman on the WHR(C) and FR. We also get vehicles jumping crossings
regularly and it is standard practice according to the rule book to call out
all signals including the white lights of road crossings but you will also
see the driver have his/her hand on the brakes just in case. Collisions have
occurred and not once has the car won.

Subject: [modeleng] Welsh Highland Railway crash

PS I heard something on the radio the other day about a crash between a
loco and van on the Welsh Highland Railway in Portmadog - did anyone else
hear anything about that? Has there been some confusion - I didn't think
that there was any crossings on the Portmadog stretch of Welsh Highland
railway line?
