Hi Alan

I spent a very pleasant afternoon at MJ Engineering's open day to day and
had no problem finding them but I have been there before. I don't buy very
much from them as most things I need are available closer to home but all my
contacts with the owners have been friendly. Perhaps you were just having a
bad day!
Whilst there I learnt that the Salisbury ME society are staging a model
engineering exhibition at Wilton on 12 & 13 March 2005.
Details are:
Organiser: P J Parrish
Tel: 01980 610346
Venue: The Michael Herbert Hall, South Street, Wilton

The last exhibition they had was small friendly and most enjoyable.

Brian

Subject: [modeleng] Suppliers (again)

For those in central-southern England, MJ Engineering has always been a
useful resource.
Their premises on the edge of Ringwood and just off the A31 / M27 made them
easy to reach from most of the south.

Today I popped in to buy something, and find the premises empty. A quick
look in the phone book shows an address as "PO BOX ----- Salisbury Road.".
Not very helpful.
Their website shows the address as: "Salisbury Road, Blashford, Ringwood".
Not as informative as it might be.

A quick phone call got the information that they are 1/4 of a mile along the
Salisbury / Fordingbridge road, "ON THE RIGHT".

Drive up that road, diligently looking and there is no sign of them. Ask at
the local petrol station and an adjacent business, neither of whom had heard
of MJ Engineering.
The local post office, had no idea where they were either!

A second phone call got the information that they are IN a museum, which is
on the LEFT HAND SIDE (going north)..
There is no sign outside, the company name isnt shown anywhere, and it is
only when you find the door to the shop that you might spot a postcard at
waist level, giving the opening times, and their name.

I tackled one of the owners about them "hiding their light under a bushel",
only to get the response that "everyone knows where they are".

Well, sorry, no. "Everyone" doesnt.
I didnt.
A pal who was with me didnt.
I spoke to a member of Bournemouth Model Engineers this afternoon,. and he
didnt.

After all that, they were out of stock of silver solder so my effort was
wasted!

What with Tim's previous comments about suppiers, it makes me wonder if
there people want business, or is it that they just enjoy playing with
models and us customers are a b**** nuisance that stops them enjoying their
hobby?

For anyone who wishes to find them, turn off the A31 heading north up the
A338.
After 1/3rd of a mile, on your LEFT is a rural museum, and MJ are inside the
museum entrance, their door being on the left as you enter.
Of course, I am sure this information is pointless as "everyone knows where
they are" !!!!
