Just to say that the steel tyres are on and to thank all those who showed an interest. The most difficult part of the job was parting off the individual tyres, especially the first one where the overhang from the chuck was 6 inches. Had to deploy the rear toolpost and run the lathe at 20 RPM. The actual fitting of the tyres was a piece of cake - I heated each tyre until it just started to discolour, at this point the wheel was lowered in, the clearance was such that I could actually see daylight through the gap. Then left it for 30 minutes when the whole thing was almost back to room temperature. Thge acid test is still some time away but I'm on a roll at the moment - maybe I'll have a go at an exhaust steam injector :-)) Thanks again, Barrie MODEL ENGINEERING DISCUSSION LIST.
