Lee,
I wonder if there's loads of backlash in the "left to right" leadscrew? When
the work was moved to the left the slack would be such that the cutter could
pull the table to the right and climb mill at 90° to the intended direction.

I have just joined another new forum on a commercial web site and came
across this milling problem.

I thought that he may have been using a 4 flute end mill and plunge cutting
and suggested he try a slot drill or drop the end mill to the full depth and
then feed it side ways.
