Attention Mississippi Birders!
The 2016 Fall Audubon Coastal Bird Survey (ACBS) begins August 20-October 30,
2016. We are calling on Mississippi birders and local Audubon Chapters to visit
the MS Gulf Coast this Fall and help us count!
What is ACBS? ACBS is a Citizen Science effort that engages community
volunteers in the monitoring of coastal birds in their habitats. Each survey
provides critical data on bird diversity and populations trends and allows
conservation managers to assess threats and identify remedial actions.
Duties: Volunteers will be counting, identifying, and documenting coastal bird
species at multiple survey sites in Jackson, Harrison, and Hancock counties.
Surveys usually take 1-2 hours to complete. Each bird survey site has been
assigned a Survey Site Coordinator to conduct surveys and assist volunteers.
Required: Volunteers must be able to walk at least 2 miles in adverse weather
conditions on beaches and difficult terrain. No previous birding experience is
required but is helpful.
