Hello Birders,
I went to see White-faced Ibis that were seen by Hal Mitchell yesterday.
Was not sure what to expect, and I arrived and sat in the farm road
wondering where the ponds were located. Not visible from the road. Long
story short, the son-in-law of the farm owner came along and granted me
permission to bird the ponds. He also directed me to them.
I am reporting an unexpected American Bittern. It was walking the
shoreline amongst weeds. I watched it through my scope for ca. 15 minutes,
and I got a view of the full body for several minutes. I am convinced of
the correct ID, but it seems rather early for migrating bitterns.
