Actually that's a good idea on the memory side too :D No, it isn't essential, but it seemed like a nice idea to separate the data settings (fixed) from the run time settings (threads and perhaps memory limits) in order that those might be more easily controlled when running MIRA on a cluster (where the number of CPUs and memory may be allocated via the queuing system). If no one else has asked about this then it is probably a niche request (and as you say, adding more command line switches can be a slippery slope).
