A. both the sources as well as the mid point of the balancing pot go to the ground. B. the LO transformer could be anything. It could even be the same old trifilar transformer that was earlier used with the center tap removed from the ground and floating. or it could be a simple 1:2 transformer with 5 turns and 10 turns on FT37-43. I used a binocular core as well as a prewound trifilar transformer (I usually make 10 of them at a time and keep them in the inductor box). - f
