Subject: Conservation India's Guide to Ethical Wildlife Photography

Twenty years ago, wildlife photography was a hobby practiced by few people.
Customs duties on equipment were prohibitive, and most aspirants also
lacked the money to travel extensively in pursuit of their passion.
All this has changed dramatically, and today there are thousands of amateur
photographers all over India actively pursuing nature photography on
weekends and holidays. While this has resulted in an explosion of high
quality images of Indian wildlife, it has also created a number of serious
problems. Today, for every responsible photographer who respects nature
and tries to minimize his or her impact, there are hordes of unaware or
uncaring shutterbugs that have become a menace to wildlife in their pursuit
of the ‘perfect shot’.
To create awareness on this issue, and to inculcate a more ethical approach
to nature photography, *Conservation India* has produced a booklet
titled *‘Stop!
Don’t shoot like that – A simple guide to ethical wildlife photography’*.
Written by
Shekar Dattatri, a wildlife and conservation filmmaker, and Ramki
Sreenivasan, a well-known wildlife photographer, the illustrated booklet,
which is peppered with insightful cartoons, has been prepared after
consultations with many eminent nature photographers and conservationists.
