[macvoiceover] automation help

Hi All,
I want to figure out this automation thing. after listening to one of the
older Screenless Switchers podcasts, I decided to give the automation app a few
nudges toward performing some simple tasks.
I have managed to lock up the application a number of times. I get the message
"automation busy"
I then have to force quit the application.
I have a strong feeling this is because of voiceover in one way or another.
Are you folks having success with it?
