Hi Ed

I understand what you're saying, and I'm really okay with losing battery with 
use. What bothers me is the loss of battery for nothing. The apple statistics 
suggest that if you were just to leave your phone on standby, you would get 300 
hours, which means, on average, losing 1% every three hours or so. Even 
allowing for slight variations from phone to phone, on standby, mine is going 
much, much faster than that, and at the times when this is happening, the usage 
figure rises, too. The usage figure is only meant to reflect the amount of time 
you're actually working with the phone, so it should be significantly less than 
the standby time. That it's not on mine makes me think there's something else 
going on in the background.
