Thanks for the suggestion; unfortunately, I’ve already tried that, and every
other combination of VO arrows, interacting, plain arrows, clicking, enter
key... the minute I exit the table, even if I’m still in System Prefs, the
setting reverts to its default. Nothing I seem to do will save the change.

When you interact with the slider, VO right arrow to the setting you want,
and then stop interacting at that point. This works for me in the Energy
Saver settings on my iMac. Hope it works for you as well.
