Can't you rename the file?

Hi Listers,
I am experiencing a very odd behavior with Safari. I am trying to download a
.brf file from a catalog and I am getting very odd results.
First, when I found the file and clicked on it with VO-Spacebar, it
downloaded onto the screen instead of downloading itself to the Downloads
folder. Then, when I tried to save the file, it finally downloaded.
However, it downloaded as a filename.brf.txt file. Needless to say I
couldn’t read it very well, because all the contractions and punctuation.
were interpreted incorrectly..
Then, I tried setting my Safari preferences
But I got stuck. I couldn’t get beyond this strange query having to do
with passwords. I didn’t want to have anything to do with passwords, but I
couldn’t get out of the loop and into the normal preferences list.
So, I have two questions.
1. How can I change the Safari preferences, and bypass the password list?
2. Is there a way to read a .brf file that has been interpreted as a
.txt file? I will play around with this file on my notetaker, , and if I
discover an answer, I’ll let you know. However, I have to use this file for
work, and can’t spend lots of time on it today.
And, perhaps more importantly, I need to get into my Safari Preferences,
bypassing that Password list.
Thanks, as always, for your assistance!
